How it works

A small choice. A better destination.

A quick wheel between your link and your browser. Choose a destination, then let Browter hand it over.

01 / Keep an everyday fallback

Browter is a Windows link handler. During setup, choose a real browser or profile as your fallback, then configure Windows to hand HTTP and HTTPS links to Browter. An ordinary link uses your fallback when nothing else is armed.

You still browse in your existing browsers. Browter does not replace them.

02 / Choose before you click

Hold Alt + Q, move toward a browser or profile, then release to select it. Or tap the shortcut and click an entry, or press Enter to choose the highlighted entry. Optional number keys provide another way to select. The choice is armed for 12 seconds by default. Change the countdown from 3 to 60 seconds in Settings → Selection.

Now click the link. When Windows hands it to Browter while the selection is armed, Browter sends it to your chosen destination. The countdown indicator reminds you that the choice is temporary.

Simulated desktop and example profiles. No real links open; demo history stays in this page.

03 / Or choose after the click

With Shift + click enabled, hold Shift while clicking an eligible link. Browter holds it and shows the wheel so you can choose its destination. Availability depends on the source app and Windows handing the link to Browter.

Change your mind

Cancel the wheel with Escape. Pending links use the fallback. If an armed selection expires before a link arrives, ordinary fallback behavior resumes. Shortcut and selection options are customizable in the desktop settings. A normal choice is consumed by the next link; optional sticky selection keeps it active until the countdown expires.

Know the boundary

Links inside an existing browser, embedded viewers, custom protocols and apps that bypass Windows defaults may stay in their own flow. Browter v1 does not automatically route URLs or source apps to profiles.
